ABOUT THE ARTIST, Denise ferreira
Hi! I'm Denise Ferreira, founder and primary artist behind Emoticons Face & Body Art. I am excited to have found a way to combine my creative spirit and my love of children with a flexible and satisfying career. I am a proud member of the Word Clown Association, and I am fully insured to paint at any event.
Emoticons truly began in the fall of 2014 when I volunteered to paint faces for my son's school Halloween party. I had been craft painting for years, so I figured I could fill in with limited troubles. At that event, I discovered how many children loved having their faces painted, and how hard it had been for the school to find willing and interested people to do it. For two and a half hours, I sat with brush in hand as students asked to become vampires, tigers, butterflies and a variety of other characters. I had boys ask for logos for their favorite sports teams and girls ask for their names or a BFF (best friends forever) heart. There was no end to their creativity, and their smiles when they looked in the mirror were the best reward.
A few days later, a friend overheard me talking about how much fun I had painting and asked if I'd be willing to paint faces at her daughter's school. I said, "Sure. Why not? Sounds fun." Again I was surrounded by fun and creativity for hours as little girls became Elsa and boys became Spiderman, among other designs. At this event, I got a chance to work with professional face paints, and I was hooked!
I am a wife and mother of five, although only three are still home. For the past several years, I have been caring for several family members with health issues that require a certain level of flexibility and availability, and it has been challenging to find work which would allow me to remain available when needed and still help support my family. I have been lucky enough in Emoticons to find something that also feeds my creative spirit.
Since I started, I've painted faces for comic book conventions, youth football championships, birthday parties, and school family night activities. Each time, I discover new levels of creativity in our children and a new depth to the love for what I'm doing.
I hope to bring that joy to your next event!
