A few months late, but better late than never, right?
I had such a FABULOUS time at the March of Dimes March for Babies in Boston on May 7, 2016. This event hits close to home for me because 25 years ago tomorrow (Happy Birthday, Steve!!!) my son was born 10 weeks premature. He spent the first month of his life in the NICU hooked up to wires and fed through a tube. For the 6 months after he came home, he was connected to an apnea monitor that sounded every time he fell asleep because he breathing was too shallow for the monitor to detect.
As crazy as that time was, we were incredibly lucky. He has had a few challenges over the years because of his birth, but he's grown in to a strong man, a good husband and an amazing father. So many other families are not as lucky.
The people who came out to the March were amazing. There were so many families there supporting each other and their loved ones. The volunteers were pouring out of the woodwork. The weather was overcast but the sun was shining through every person who participated.
I especially appreciate the time, effort and dedication of the organizers. It takes so much work to pull off an event that size and they managed it without a hitch. Then, they took the time to send out an email acknowledging everyone else who participated.
Here's what they had to say....
I'd like to offer a special thank you to Vanessa Medeiros and her team for everything they do!
